Hackberry Branch

Hackberry

Branch History

The Hackberry Branch has overcome two hurricanes since opening in the summer of 2003. The first two years the Hackberry Branch provided exemplary, uninterrupted service to the citizens of this small town. Hurricane Rita made landfall in late September of 2005, effectively closing the library for three months. Through grants and perseverance the library reopened before the end of that year. In mid-September 2008 Hackberry Branch closed its doors once again in the face of tragedy and damage when Hurricane Ike caused major flooding across the region. Against the odds the Hackberry Branch was able to reopen nine months later and since then has served the people of Hackberry with their educational and entertainment needs. This library stands today as a hub of information in a small, tightly knit community and offers fun and educational programs for children and adults alike.
